Kirk’s father was a serious amateur photographer long before he was born. By the time Kirk was interested in photography, his father had installed a Bessler enlarger in the laundry room. By the time he was 14, he had purchased an Exacta camera from his father, which he paid for by photographing football players and cheerleaders at his junior high school games, developing the film and making prints in the laundry room darkroom, then selling them the following week. Later, with lawn mowing proceeds, he bought a Nikkormat , which provided interchangeable lenses and broadened the images he could create to include landscape and still life.

In college he discovered impressionistic pictorialism, which captivated him. The idea of creating a painterly composition intrigued him. He moved to Sweden in the early 1990s which presented him with Nordic landscapes, lighting and models. He was one of the first photographers on Internet when the SITO project asked to included some of his images in their collection. From that he began receiving commissions, had an image used for a book cover and sold Cibachrome prints around the world. His images were featured on LensArt.com. However, until recently, monetizing digital images was difficult. His interest wained and he was absent for almost a decade.

In the last few years with NFT artwork, photographers have been able to create unique, painterly images that can be collected and sold like any other piece of art. It took blockchain technology to rekindle digital photography, and with it Kirk’s passion to create images. Enjoy his work and consider purchasing a digital image.
